Mental Health Training

Mental health awareness training equips participants with a greater awareness of mental illness, an understanding of the symptoms and signs of common mental illnesses, including suicide, and the steps for supporting a colleague who may be experiencing the impacts of an existing or emerging mental health problem. Brief and great value for money and time, these sessions are perfect for building knowledge and skills across the organisation.

Leading Positive Mental Health at Work educates and equips leaders to foster a positive mental health culture within their organisation or team. They will develop a deeper mental health awareness, an understanding of the benefits of a mentally well workplace, the skills to identify and support a staff member who is experiencing an existing or emerging mental health problem and clarity of their responsibilities and the organisation’s legal obligations in relation to mental health. For frontline leaders to executives.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

An MHFA course equips participants with the skills to recognise and appropriately respond to someone experiencing an emerging or worsening mental illness.

The program outcomes include:

  • Deep knowledge of mental illnesses and treatments.
  • Knowledge of appropriate mental health first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness.
  • Standard MHFA Manual, a Certificate of Completion and eligibility to become accredited as a Mental Health First Aider.

A Mental Health First Aider provides support until a person is able to get to appropriate professional help.

Mentally Wellthy offers MHFA in person or via the online blended course. Please call 07 3354 4867 or 0419 120 601 to discuss your needs.

The online course consists of two components:

Component 1: Self-paced interactive eLearning (5-7 hours)

The engaging and interactive eLearning course component presents an overview of mental health problems and mental health crises.

Component 2:  Instructor-led video conferencing (2 x 2.5 hour sessions)
This component follows the completion of component 1 – eLearning. Course Component 2 provides course participants with an opportunity to revise content covered in the self-paced eLearning program and to consolidate the application of this content with the development of practical skills in a group environment online.

Importance of Mental Health

Mental illness is a major risk for organisations leading to absence, lost productivity, and disruption. Training in Mental Health First Aid helps to create safer workplaces and communities by equipping people with practical skills to support those around them.

Mental illness is estimated to cost the Australian economy $43 to $51 billion per year according to the Productivity Commission’s recent draft report into mental health. With 45% of Australians aged between 16 and 85 experiencing mental illness during their lifetime, mental illness is disrupting workplaces just like yours, but with a proactive approach, it can be combated.

Mental Health First Aid is an essential component of a progressive organisation’s mental health strategy.
